HONORING FALLEN SOLDIERS ON 10TH ANNIVERSARY

announcement Oct 10, 2017

Retired U.S. Army Colonel Angela M. Odom led a heroic group of Adjutant General’s Corps Soldiers on an extended 15-month deployment to Iraq during Operation Iraqi Freedom 06-08. On October 10th, 2007, the Battalion’s Forward Operating Base (FOB) was attacked resulting in numerous casualties and the loss of one of Odom’s soldiers, Staff Sergeant Lillian L. Clamens. Just a few short weeks later, on Odom’s birthday, November 28th, a stray round hit another of her soldiers while he was attending a USO show on the FOB; Sergeant First Class John J. Tobiason was killed instantly.

Odom revealed her candid account of her experience as the Battalion Commander of the 15th Personnel Services Battalion (PSB) in her book ‘Bronco Strong’, which was released last year on Veteran’s Day. This year, she is further honoring the 15th PSB and specifically SSG Clamens and SFC Tobiason with online tributes on the 10th Anniversaries of both events and the release of the audio version of ‘Bronco Strong’ with an online launch party on Veteran’s Day.

“Our story is not the one you hear about on the news or read about in the papers. Our Soldiers are the unsung heroes of a long, grueling war, and I am so incredibly proud to have served as their Battalion Commander,” Odom said. “Celebrating the lives of SSG Clamens, SFC Tobiason, and all of the other members of the 15th PSB on the 10th Anniversary of both incidents is important for all of us.”

Odom has created a Facebook profile photo frame featuring the #WeRemember hashtag as a way for people to pay tribute to her fallen soldiers from October 10th through November 28th. On Veteran’s Day, Odom will participate in a live Question & Answer session on the Bronco Strong Book Facebook page and will offer giveaways including signed books, the new audio version of the book, and Bronco Strong merchandise. She will also be participating in various events and book signings throughout the southern United States in October and November.

The highlight of the tribute time period will be the release of the interviews Odom did with members of the 15th PSB during the research period prior to writing Bronco Strong. These never-before-seen video and audio interviews will be posted both on the Bronco Strong Book Facebook page and website, www.broncostrongbook.com.
